Various types of hair products are available worldwide.
These may vary from medications to grooming products.
Grooming products include, shampoos, conditioners,
lotions, treatment solutions and dyes.
Shampoos are intended to remove oil and dirt from
the hair and scalp. Most shampoos on the market today
will adequately clean the hair and scalp. Shampoos
contain detergents, foaming agents, thickeners, softeners
and fragrances. Detergents are the main primary sebum
and dirt removal ingredients, however excessive removal
of sebum leaves the hair dull and difficult to comb.
This increased concentration of detergent requires
the use of conditioners.
After shampooing, the hair should be treated with
a conditioner to guarantee manageability and shine
to the hair. Conditioners may be added to the shampoo
or applied separately after the shampooing and rinsing
process is done. Conditioners may contain thickening
agents and proteins. Hair thickening conditioners
apply a thin layer of polymer to the hair shaft. This
polymer fills the hair shaft defects, creating a smooth
surface to increase shine and lustre whilst eliminating
static electricity and increasing manageability. Protein
conditioning agents contain proteins, which enter
the hair shaft, strengthen the hair shaft and mend
split ends.

Not
sure which hair product? Doubtful about its effectiveness? |

There are literally thousands of hair products on
the market which claim to be effective in stopping
hair loss. Just visit your hairdresser or pharmacy
and you will be offered various lotions, shampoos
or other medications. How effective are they is anybody's
business but one thing for sure is that there are
two medications which are classified as medicinals.
This means that they have been approved by the relevant
authorities, in this case the FDA, as medications
in order to stop hair loss. Other hair products do
not have this certification and their effectiveness
is therefore questioned. The two medications we are
referring to are minoxidil, which is a lotion and
finasteride, which comes in tablet form. Lotions tend
to be preferred rather than taking a tablet for life.
Lotions involve applying the liquid externally and
one tends to feel more at easy applying an external
lotion rather than taking a tablet. In any case the
tablet has a certain side effect which tends to put
patients off.
There are so many hair products on the market but
one tends to buy a product that is advertised frequently.
New hair products are being produced virtually daily
especially lotions. Some medications may have some
temporary benefit but the most reliable product is
minoxidil. There are hair products which have been
produced in China, United States of America, South
America, Australia and virtually every country in
the world. Where does one start? How does one know
which hair product to choose? Some hair products claim
to grow a full head of hair on a completely bald head
just by applying the lotion once daily. You would
be foolish to believe that such medications could
possibly give such a result. Yet there are people
who fall for this type of gimmick. Some bogus clinics
charge hundreds of pounds for carrying out a treatment
using some magic potion. Recently a lady in the United
States was arrested for applying a medication to patients
scalps and charging hundreds of dollars for her bogus
lotion.
If you are suffering from thinning hair and hair loss
it is always best to visit your doctor. A doctor would
prescribe a medical product which is obviously an
approved product. By just purchasing a hair product
that you may come across at your hairdresser or pharmacy,
you are just buying one hair product out of thousands
which happens to be on the shelf in that particular
outlet. Some patients tend to choose a shampoo in
the hope that thinning hair would stop. Unfortunately
no shampoo has yet been produced in order to stop
hair loss and thinning hair. The answer is a lotion
which one leaves on his head. Shampoos are rinsed
away and would have no benefit whatsoever against
hair loss. Minoxidil lotion is a medication and is
highly recommended. Used twice daily applying 1ml
of the lotion in the morning and 1ml in the evening,
this medication would stop hair loss after six weeks
and start to thicken thinning hair after ten weeks.
This is the medication that your doctor would prescribe.
It is the only lotion which is classified as a pharmaceutical.
Minoxidil lotion is available is 2% ad 5% strengths.
It may also be formulated using additives such as
minoxidil lotion with tretinoin or minoxidil lotion
with nicotinate. Certain medications formulated using
such additives as tretinoin and nicotinate or even
finasteride, azelaic acid and progesterone have proved
to be effective in combating hair loss and thinning
hair.
